Toshiba, Nortel Team Up for WiMAX Base Stations
May 25, 2007
Japanese Toshiba and Canadian Nortel recently announced plans to co-develop mobile WiMAX base stations for the Japanese and global markets. For the base stations, Toshiba will develop the radio module, leveraging its own amplifier and miniaturization technology, while Nortel will offer the digital module based on its OFMD (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) and MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technologies. Featuring miniaturized equipment, the new base stations are expected to offer higher reliability and lower power consumption than the existing ones.
